Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is getting a new bit of DLC soon, titled Back to Ubersreik, and it will feature three maps from the original Vermintide, remastered for Vermintide 2, as per popular fan request. They will be part of the titular town.
Back to Ubersreik's main selling point will be a new, unrevealed challenge that will happen in the three new-but-not-so-new maps that will be a part of the town of Ubersreik which is rumoured to be the birthplace of Sigmar himself.
Fatshark's level design team recently unveiled more info on how the maps came to be and what has changed since Warhammer: Vermintide. Due to the technical difference between the two Vermintide games, it was not an entirely simple process, but it did offer Fatshark an opportunity to bring new content that was also highly requested to Vermintide 2.
After initially setting Ubersreik up, the developers figured out that nostalgia and reality are two different things as the map looked dated and definitely not as good as they remembered it from 2015. Kicking the looks up a notch was on the to-do list, of course, but Fatshark decided they would also add more replayability to the map.
This didn't just happen to keep new fans occupied, but they apparently also changed some things on the map to involve experiences that will at least feel like new even to the hardcore fans who "played the first game to the death".
In total, Ubersreik received new lighting, fog and post effects in order to work well with the new engine rendering. Outdated visual effects were switched out and resolution bumped up to meet the modern standards.
As for the gameplay part, the map has been updated and rebalanced with the new patrols, pickups and dark pact bosses in mind. This is likely the part that will make the maps seem fresh even to the fans who played through the map in the first Vermintide. Naturally, new challenges will also be added and new voiceover will reflect the Back to Ubersreik changes.
