When it comes to critics, the proverbial jury hasn't quite been blown away by Vampyr but commercially, the game seems just fine as the French publisher Focus Home Interactive pulls of their first number one spot on UK's boxed sales chart.
Now don't confuse that statement with mere "Vampyr suckz", because it's not like that. Let's just say we may have been victims of too high expectations but they're obviously doing something right here.
Interestingly, the story of blood munching dr. Reid is the third new original IP to grace the chart's pole position in 2018. The other two were Rare and Microsoft's Sea of Thieves and last week's Detroit: Become Human, made by another French company Quantic Dream.
Barlog and Co's paternal sim God of War is another game showing clear intent on not going anywhere yet, clawing back a single spot upwards compared . David Cage's Detroit: Become Human is slowly dropping, having gone down two spots since last week's second position. Note that this is perfectly normal and expected from singleplayer titles.
Far Cry 5 dropped from third to fifth place, although it doesn't seem to have left UK boxed top 10 since it launched. Fallout 4 is dancing around the top 10 as well, having been 10th the week before.
State of Decay 2 seems to be on a steady upwards path and the numbers agree. Undead Labs' game racked up two days in, upping it to on 05 June 2018, which is yet another one of those situations where the gamer crowds are proving critics wrong.
As usual, bear in mind these are physical sales charts for all platforms, meaning no digital sales data, so you may not want to draw any definitive conclusions. Having said that, the remainder of the list goes:
- FIFA 18
- God of War
- Detroit: Become Human
- Far Cry 5
- Fallout 4
- State of Decay 2
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition
