According to industry insider Michael Pachter, Sony will skip E3 expo for the second time in 2020 and will focus on their PlayStation 5 reveal event, which is coming in February 2020.
Last year, Japanese tech giant Sony decided to skip the world's biggest gaming expo E3. Sony claimed that E3 lost its purpose and that they will try to find other ways to reveal exclusive games and consoles. "We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you," Sony said back in 2019.
PlayStation State of Play live streams are one of these new ways but the first couple of episodes were pretty underwhelming for many fans who still think that E3 is still the best place for exclusive reveals. Many agree that Sony made a mistake but according to the latest rumours, the company don't have any plans to return to E3 in 2020.
The information comes from a well-known industry insider and Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter, who talked to VGC. Pachter said that he's very sceptical about Sony returning to E3. "As far as I know, they don’t plan to attend," he said and added that it could be a huge mistake and a missed opportunity for the company. "I think that’s a huge mistake, as their focus on the consumer is not inconsistent with their attendance at the premier industry trade show. I hope they change their minds, but am sceptical."
On top of this, VGC also reports that Xbox's events team is working under the assumption that Sony will not be at this year's E3 and are upping their plans accordingly.
At the moment, Sony are yet to confirm if they indeed plan to skip E3 2020 but since the big event in February is just around the corner, it would be surprising to see them again on E3 2020. According to reports and rumours, Sony's will host a big PlayStation 5 reveal event next month, where they also plan to reveal several new titles.
It's good that we won't have to wait for too long to see if these reports are actually true.
