CI Games attempted to go open world with Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 but after that plan backfired, they announced a new game set in Siberia which turned out to be Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts. It will release on 22 November 2019 worldwide.
Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 didn't really turn out to be a major success, in part due to being too ambitious after going for the open-world setting.
CI Games decided to take a step back and forego open world for the next instalment, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts, opting to go for Hitman-styled limited number of maps. There will be five maps in total, likely designed for extreme replayability.
The trailer above features one of those five maps, named Black Gold, and is located on a harbour with wide-open areas, perfect for long-range sniper kills. Hopefully, the targets won't disappear if we get too far away from them like it was the case in some instances in Ghost Warrior 3.
Aside from showcasing Black Gold, the trailer also offers a glimpse of the new Dynamic Reticle System which is basically a crutch for those who can't be bothered to learn the ballistics and manage them properly in a sniping game. It will show players where the bullet will go exactly and how much it will diverge from the perceived bullet trajectory.
You can see the system in action at 0:42 time stamp in the trailer but just a few seconds before that we get to see the drone that lights up the players' HUD like a Christmas tree with enemy blips for decorations.
According to the Steam page, Contracts will be optimised better than Ghost Warrior 3 since even the recommended settings list only a mid-range rig rather than a supercomputer from NASA.
The price tag will also not be that of a AAA title, standing at $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99. There will be a showing on Gamescom so expect a bunch of gameplay videos popping up in the near future.
