Ron Gilbert says "the joy of sharing has been driven from me" as he decides to stop sharing new details about Return to Monkey Island.
The return To Monkey Island gameplay trailer from Nintendo Mini Direct was supposed to hype up the fans of this iconic franchise but instead, it's pretty divisive, mainly due to its changed art direction.
Some fans expected that Return To Monkey Island would retain the iconic visual style that made these games beloved by many but instead, the development team led by legendary creator Ron Gilbert, decided it's time for a change.
Sadly, this decision is not sitting well with all Monkey Island fans who sent mean comments and attacked Ron Gilbert personally.
"I'm shutting down comments. People are just being mean and I'm having to delete personal attack comments. It's an amazing game and everyone on the team is proud of it.
Play it or don't play it but don't ruin it for everyone else. I won't be posting anymore about the game. The joy of sharing has been driven from me," Gilbert said.
The Curse of Monkey Island compared to Return to Monkey Island
We think both have their unique charm and look pretty great. On top of this, even if the new art direction isn't up to the standard that we expect from the Monkey Island series, is that really the reason for the personal attacks and mean comments directed at Ron Gilbert and his team? Certainly, not.
We don't have any doubts that the developers are putting their heart and soul into this project which we cannot wait to finally play when it launches later this year.
