Fans were surprised when the news about Red Dead Redemption 2's disk requirement on consoles broke out, as 105 GB was quite a lot. We guessed it could be Rockstar reserving space for post launch content, and it turned out to be the case.

According to a listing on Microsoft Store, Red Dead Redemption 2 will initially take up 88.57 GB of disk space on Xbox One. This is substantially less than the 105 GB requirement, but considering the popularity of games as a service model, we can expect the post launch content to bump it up to the initial requirement, if not even further.

While the Wild West setting might not allow for as many microtransaction options as GTA Online did, it's quite clear that Rockstar's hard work has yielded enough customisation and quality of life options for the players to buy in-game. The listing also confirms the pre-order bonuses as well as a brief description of Red Dead Redemption 2's setting.

Meanwhile, it would still be recommended to keep at least 105 GB free space before installing Red Dead Redemption 2, since the 88.57 GB could be just the download size. As you may know already, consoles require more than the download size to instal the game files.

Another interesting number is tied to the online component of Red Dead Redemption 2, that will be coming at some point after launch. Red Dead Online will support from two to 32 players in total, which just over the 30 player limit in GTA Online. With that in mind, players can actually stop thinking about a full scale battle royale mode, as it would require way more players than that.

For the moment, Red Dead Redemption 2 seems to be the gaming industry's stark contrast to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 as it will forfeit the large scale battle royale in favour of storytelling and world size. This sets an interesting stage for Black Ops 4, as Activision and Treyarch are looking to trample their competition, which is Battlefield V.

When you take into account that Red Dead Redemption 2 will likely attract a completely different crowd of gamers, that goal might turn out even more profitable than initially thought by Activision.
