Riding high on the recent conquest of Steam's top most played games spot PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds developers Bluehole Studio have now released some more footage of the upcoming changes and updates to the game's weather system.

It seems that fog will feature prominently, and while this is a nice way to force players to think more in terms of close quarter firefights it might be another way for the studio to get some extra performance out of the battle royale shooter.
Fog may not be as appropriate for the upcoming , but hey - how about sandstorms instead?
Sparing your GPU the hassle of rendering distant objects by way of fog is a tried and true performance improvement method in games development, but whether the weather changes will indeed have that effect still remains to be seen.

PUBG should also get some improvements regarding the way players can interact with small vaultable objects, like cars or low barriers, and a means of climbing certain out of reach spots is also on its way.

If you can't wait and see if your potential performance issues will vanish into the foggy woods, you can try and get a few extra frames out of your battlestation with the aid of SubReal's guide for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.
