Prior to last night, Psychonauts 2 had dropped to the edge of our radar, but what better way to return than with a glorious trailer, equally glorious screenshots and a Jack Black cameo.
Double Fine rolled out the new trailer on Xbox Series X's games showcase last night and it was absolutely splendid.
In case you couldn't tell - Psychonauts 2 is one of the titles very dear to our heart. Given that Microsoft backed out of publishing the first one, it's quite symbolic that they'd snap up Double Fine and ensure the sequel is perfect.
Now, we've hungrily lapped up every bit of Psychonauts 2-related stuff coming out of Double Fine but no trailer, or screenshots for that matter, looked as exquisite as these.
Add to that the fact that Jack Black is making a cameo, and you can bet your bottom dollar Psychonauts 2 will be at least as memorable as the first game. Tim Schafer really seems to like working with Black, and who can blame him - the guy really knows how to light up production with spirit alone, let alone acting and Dio-esque singing.
Not long after yesterday's presentation, Double Fine dropped four screenshots on Twitter, and they look quite hype-worthy. All the chromatic aberration effects look right at home in Raz's colourful world, and most certainly add to the feel of explosive action awaiting us when Psychonauts 2 finally launches.
If we had to nitpick, we'd probably want to see more of Black behind the mic, but perhaps it's wise to let Raz have his own moment. On the same tweet, fans are clamouring for Brutal Legend to be revived so we guess it's best if we saved our energy for that.
