PS5 now reminds you that you are about to play PS4 version

In the latest PlayStation 5 system update, Sony have seemingly added a new option which will alert players if they are about to start a PlayStation 4 version of the game, instead of next-gen port.

PlayStation 5 owners rejoice! It seems that Sony have introduced an important feature in the latest PlayStation 5 system update that will certainly make you happy. As you may know, PlayStation 5 does a really poor job of telling you whether you are playing a PS4 or PS5 version of a game.

Many players end up playing the PS4 version without even knowing it but it looks like this won't be the case anymore since the update adds a message that should help you avoid this confusion. As you can see in the screenshot above, after the update, if you try to start a cross-gen game, a message will pop up, asking you to confirm if you really want to play the PS4 version of the game or switch to PlayStation 5 version.

This message will only pop up if you have a PS4 game that also has a PS5 version available. It's a neat little addition that reminds you to play the best available version and enjoy higher framerates and other visual improvements in most cases.

It seems that only some players got the feature, though, but it is probably only a matter of time before the update arrives to all PlayStation 5 consoles.
