Mafia: The Old Country is getting next-gen enhancements for the PlayStation 5 Pro, as developer Hangar 13 detailed a bevy of additional features officially coming to the system, including 120Hz support, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), and better dynamic resolution in both Quality and Performance modes.
Players will be able to take advantage of Sony’s latest and greatest, as Mafia: The Old Country’s tech will enable smoother frame rates, less screen tearing, and clearer graphics for both hectic action and stealthy car chases, with more detail in the environments as well. If you have a PS5 Pro and a high-refresh-rate TV, the game will work with your hardware to make sure that you get the smoothest Mafia experience possible.
Mafia: The Old Country will release August 8, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game is a prequel to the original 2002 game, as it will try to live up to the Mafia series’ reputation of heavy narrative focus, historical authenticity, and open-world exploration - with a healthy technical upgrade, too.
PC Players Get Full Customization and Scalability
PC players won't be left out either. Hangar 13 has outlined a highly flexible PC version with a range of visual options and hardware support.
Features include:
- Uncapped frame rates
- HDR and ultrawide monitor support
- Remappable controls
- Modern upscaling via AMD FSR, NVIDIA DLSS, and Intel XeSS
- Full V-Sync and advanced accessibility features
The Mafia: The Old Country system requirements scale from very reasonable to some very high-end setups, as games rarely do nowadays. For a Ryzen 7 2700X or Core i7-9700K with an RTX 2070 or RX 5700 XT, the game should run at 1080p Medium.
To play at 1440p on High, you’ll want an RTX 3080 Ti or RX 6950 XT. An RTX 4070 Ti or Radeon RX 9070 (RX 7900 XT or 7900 XTX) is what you’ll need for the Epic preset at 2880x1620, which is 75% of a 4K resolution.
The base requirements across any resolution or preset are 55 GB of SSD storage, Windows 10 or 11, and DirectX 12.
Old-School Storytelling With Next-Gen Tech
Mafia: The Old Country is shaping up to be a triple-A technical showcase that we know Hangar 13 is more than capable of achieving with the right hardware and experience.
We can play on PS5 Pro, Xbox Series, or even a next-gen gaming PC if we really want, and with the extra technical enhancements, it should be hard to not be pulled into the fictional 1930s crime story that the game has to offer.
If the game can deliver on the technical and the narrative, Mafia: The Old Country might be the best entry in the series yet.
