StudioMDHR's Cuphead sold two million copies in less than three months. The hand-drawn indie game was initially set to be released in 2016 but the developer duo decided to delay it in order to make sure they get their vision right. All copies of Cuphead can be played on a PC.
Cuphead by StudioMDHR launched on 26 September, 2017. The run and gun game managed to sell one million copies in just two weeks after it first hit the shelves. Today, I come to you with the news that Cuphead's sales now stand at 2 million.
Co-creator Chad Moldenhauer wrote: "Much to our shock and amazement, we can announce that Cuphead has now sold over 2 million copies across all platforms. Even in our wildest dreams, we never thought our crazy little characters would be embraced by this many fans from around the world and we are continuously humbled by your support."
He went on to thank the fans who played, streamed and made various forms of fan art.
Cuphead was one of AltChar's most anticipated games of 2017 and I'm glad the boys carried out their vision with zero compromises:
"Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact."
SteamSpy 's records are not always trustworthy or up-to-date, but they show the number of Cuphead owners is now at around 1,093,750 ± 31,448. That's the number of people who own the game on Steam , mind you.
The SteamSpy numbers don't count the copies bought through GOG and the Microsoft Store . Seems like majority of people who play the game, do so on a PC. Even those who purchased their copy in order to play it on their Xbox One got the version that has cross-play with Windows 10 enabled.
