Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available for pre-load exclusively on Xbox One and the download size is a whopping 137.66 GB. While this is not as big as 175 GB that was listed under PC specs, it's still a pretty massive file size.
Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is just around the corner and it's bringing a lot of new features and game modes to the popular shooter franchise. Recently, the developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision released the official PC system requirements for the game and one thing that stuck out to many players was the required hard drive space.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare requires a whopping 175 GB of your storage space and Activision even had to explain why the requirement is so high. They said that on launch, Modern Warfare won't require that much space but it's a requirement for all the post-launch content that will arrive later.
The publisher did not say how big the download will be on launch day, but today, we have a first look at the actual size of the game file. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is officially launching on 25 October 2019 but the pre-load option is exclusively live on Xbox One and the download size is 137.66 GB.
PlayStation 4 and PC pre-load is yet to go live but the download size on the Xbox One gives us a clearer picture on what to expect from the download size on the other two platforms. PC download size is traditionally a bit bigger so it will probably be around 140 GB while PlayStation 4 should be around 137 GB or less.
And while this size is not as big as 175 GB that was listed under the PC specs, it's still a massive requirement and it's even bigger than some huge open-world games such as Red Dead Redemption 2, which was 107 GB on Xbox One.
One of the reasons for Modern Warfare's huge file size is probably its graphics technologies such as photogrammetry which aims to deliver one of the most immersive and photorealistic experiences in the Call of Duty franchise.
