Rebellion displayed a guided gameplay showcase for its new open-world survival game Atomfall. Head of design Ben Fisher leads a trailer that explores Atomfall's scavenging mechanics together with its investigative aspects and combat encounters.
Players need to search cautiously for crafting resources and essential supplies in Atomfall while steering clear of threats such as roaming bandits. The newest footage demonstrates how players will navigate through ruins to collect evidence and solve the mysteries of the game’s post-apocalyptic setting.
During scavenging missions players will discover notes and documents which function as investigative leads to help them assemble the truth instead of following the objective markers.
Stealth, combat and adaptability
The trailer demonstrates the combat system starting with a stealth takedown followed by an intense firefight. The protagonist must switch to melee weapons when the ammo supply runs out which highlights the necessity of adapting to varying combat scenarios.
A bold and experimental approach
Atomfall represents one of Rebellion's most experimental ventures according to the company. Through multiple design iterations the game allowed developers to explore creative possibilities beyond what existing franchises permitted.
Art director Ryan Greene confirms that players will possess total freedom to explore the world's secrets as they wish. The game will empower players to create their own unique paths without objective markers but acknowledge that some of their choices can result in perilous outcomes.
Release date and platforms
Atomfall will release on March 27, 2025 across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
