The third game in the Orcs Must Die series is now available on PlayStation 4. It's still free-to-play, same as on PC. The ARPG/tower defense hybrid will come with special benefits for PlayStation Plus subscribers who decide to start playing before 15 August 2017.

Orcs Must Die: Unchained is the logical conclusion for the trajectory the series has taken since its inception, and it is  now available on PlayStation 4. Action RPG orc smashing with a generous helping of tower defence mechanics and systems, along with the various available traps and playable characters lend themselves quite well to a free-to-play business model.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive about $20 worth of microtransaction items, cosmetics, consumables, in-game currency and other virtual wares if they choose to play the game before 15 August 2017.

Compared to the previous series entries, Unchained has mostly just added depth and width to Orcs Must Die, with more playable characters, enemies, skills and traps.

Orcs Must Die is quite fun on whatever your platform of choice might be. Robot Entertainment had more than enough time to polish and refine the formula of the initial game from 2011. In any case, it's free - so there is little to loose other than the usually required time investment that is to be expected from free-to-play titles.
