EA has released an official statement following the Jacksonville shooting, where the company's CEO, Andrew Wilson, announced the remaining three Madden tournaments are going to be cancelled due to EA revising esport event security.

Andrew Wilson first extended company wide condolences to the families of Elijah "TrueBoy" Clayton and Taylor "SpotMeplzzz" Robertson as well as sympathies for eleven injured participants of the event, which was just a qualifying tournament for the Madden Classic.

This was the first Madden EA Major competition of this season, and Wilson pointed out that the qualifiers are operated independently by their partners. He pretty much shielded EA from any backlash about security in a single line that's easy to miss. Anyway, Wilson's statement continued with the decision to cancel the three remaining Madden Classic qualifiers for the time being.

Apparently, the company will "run a comprehensive review of safety protocols for competitors and spectators", which is the reason behind cancellation. According to Wilson, EA will work in tandem with their partners as well as the company's own internal teams to "establish a consistent level of security at all of [EA's] competitive gaming events".

He also pointed out that this is the first time EA faced something like this in the history of the company, which is a valid reason why no one was prepared for this and why EA needs time to prepare security measures for possible future events.

I say possible, because Wilson's statement doesn't specifically say anything about when or if the remaining three qualifiers will be played with the revised security strategy. The Jacksonville tragedy didn't shake only EA's events though, as PAX organisers have also given their official statement before PAX West starts on 31 August 2018.

They mentioned that the event has been hosted for 15 years in relative safety as not one incident of this kind has occurred due to the organisers working with private security as well as the police. It was also added that the details of the security measures will not be revealed in order to preserve their effectiveness.
