PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S owners can now upgrade their copies of Quake to the next-gen. The upgrades are free as long as you're updating within the same console family.
Quake just got a free next-gen update which means that the classic shooter is now available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5. People who purchased Quake on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 are now free to also claim a next-gen upgrade on the same console family. The next-gen version is also available to the fans who opted for direct digital purchase from next-gen platforms on the Microsoft Store and the PlayStation Store, as well as to Xbox Game Pass Members who claim ownership over Xbox Series X|S.

How to upgrade Quake from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S
The next-gen consoles will use Microsoft’s Smart Delivery system to automatically upgrade eligible games.
How to upgrade Quake from PlayStation 4 to PS5
Choose your preferred method from the following list.
Method 1: Via the Game Hub
- Navigate to the Games menu on the PlayStation 5 home screen and select the Quake game hub.
- Select the (…) menu and select "PS5|Full|Quake PS5 Upgrade".
- The PlayStation 5 version should start downloading.
- A system notification will pop up as soon as the PS5 version has been installed.
- Once the PlayStation 5 version is fully installed, you will see a "Play Game" button on the game hub.
Method 2: Via the PlayStation Store
- Search the PlayStation Store for "Quake" from your PS5.
- You will see the word "Purchased" on the PlayStation 5 product tile for Quake.
- Select the PlayStation 5 title to launch the product page, then select "Download".
- Wait until the new version is downloaded and installed. You will receive a system notification when it's done.
About the save files on Xbox Series X|S and PS5
Any Quake save made on Xbox One will work on the next-gen console as long as you use the same Xbox Live account. The PlayStation 4 crowd isn't as lucky as Quake save games will not carry over to PS5 consoles.
