As we're drawing closer the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar are feeding us bits and pieces and the latest of them have to do with in-game wildlife, which will be extensive and will present ample hunting and fishing opportunities.
The website says that the in-game biomes will feature around 200 species of animals, birds and fish, all of which have been accurately modelled after their real-life counterparts. This is not only the case with visuals, because animals will behave as they do in nature - wolves will form packs to hunt, while deer will form packs to better handle predators.
All this wouldn't be of particular importance for Red Dead Redemption 2 if there wasn't for hunting and fishing, which Rockstar confirmed will be an important part of the game. In fact, the team really seem to have gone all out in trying to paint the era with a proper historical brush, at least in the hunting department.
Not only will catching your prey require careful movement and minding the wind, players' choice of weapons and even the shot placement will affect the quality of the meat and the price of the animal's hide. So, you may want to keep in mind that Red Dead Redemption 2's traders will not take kindly to you throwing a nuke on a bunny rabbit and asking top dollar for it.
Players will be using hunting and fishing as an invaluable resource, whether it's for food, trading or crafting all sorts of equipment. Just like in nature though, leaving carcasses will attract vultures. Red Dead Redemption 2's fishermen will have plenty to do as well, since "a range of species" of fish across different habitats will each require different bait.
Red Dead Redemption 2 also places great importance on a cowboy's best friend, with 19 horse breeds available in-game. Keeping your horse "groomed and well-fed, you will start to see improvements in stamina, performance and handling" and it will even become "less skittish as the bond grows between you."
