Battlefield (series)
Battlefield is a long-running first-person shooter franchise developed by Swedish studio DICE and published by Electronic Arts. Debuting with Battlefield 1942 in 2002, the series has built its reputation on large-scale multiplayer warfare combining infantry, tanks, aircraft, and naval combat across sprawling maps.
The introduction of the proprietary Frostbite engine in 2008's Bad Company brought fully destructible environments that became one of the franchise's defining features. Over two decades, the series has spanned World War II, modern combat, World War I, and near-future settings, with standout entries including Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield 1. The most recent mainline entry, Battlefield 6, launched in 2025 to strong reviews and became the biggest launch in the series' history.
