EA Sports have officially announced the launch date and cover star for NHL 21, and we're looking at October 16, 2020, and Alex Ovechkin, respectively.
EA's NHL games traditionally launched in September, but the pandemic and the resulting switch to working from home meant that NHL 21 will be slightly late, hence the October window.
As for the cover star, this is actually Ovechkin's second appearance on the cover of EA's NHL games. His first time was on NHL 2007, and it's hard to believe it's been 13 years since then.
"It's a huge honor to be on the cover of NHL 21 for the second cover in my career", Ovechkin said. "More importantly, I’m glad I’m looking just as good on the cover this year as I did in 2007!"
NHL 21 brings an overhauled career mode, i.e. Be A Pro, along with a handful of new and flashy types of moves, both visually and functionally.
On the attacking side, this are slips, banks and chips, as well as some trademark recognisable superstar moves. Defending has been polished as well, and NHL 21 players will be getting more control over goalies and their positioning.
NHL 21 introduces an iteration of HUT aimed at quicker gameplay called HUT Rush. As the name suggests, it's meant to get HUT players playing quickly, and hopefully rack up some points and achievements while they're at it.
The new instalment of EA's hockey sim also has a Franchise Mode, together with the freshly added Trade Deadline, or if you're more of a seasonal player, you can dive into the new Ranked Seasons in four modes - ones, threes, drop-in or clubs.
