GTA fans have been speculating about the next instalment in the series and clinging to any leaks for potential info but now it appears that it will take a literal decade before the next one launches.
GTA V is still going strong as it keeps popping up in top 10 of sales charts; week in, week out. Therefore, it is no wonder that Take-Two and Rockstar are not in a hurry to pump out the next instalment as soon as possible.
However, they have been tight-lipped on when GTA VI might launch but may have given the release window up in the latest financial report. Namely, fiscal 2024 contains a spike in marketing budget which has already been a pointer for Rockstar's big releases.
The spike was spotted by Jeff Cohen , an analyst with Stephens and initially reported by VentureBeat . One interesting detail is that the spike was originally meant to happen in fiscal 2023 but was later moved to 2024.
Several factors could be the reason why the delay happened but the two most likely ones are regular development delays and Covid-19 pandemic that forced everyone to work from home.
Given the usual scale of Rockstar products, working from home could potentially be even more of an impediment than it is to other developer studios, especially if they are trying to keep things under wraps.
It wasn't that long ago that The Last of Us II leaked a ton of confidential info and spoiled the entire game and it was made possible by the shift to working from home.
