Now, we like Cyberpunk 2077 and Keanu Reeves as much as the next guy but the latest developments on that front are breathtaking in a different way, as a bunch of game and Reeves fans harassed a 10-year-old for giving an honest opinion.
First things first - we're talking about a minor here and we will refer to him as 'the kid', for obvious reasons. We will not provide any links on the off chance you're here to find him and give him a piece of your mind.
Anyway, while watching Cyberpunk 2077's E3 2019 trailer, the kid commented on Johnny Silverhand's actor, suggesting he doesn't look like a legend.
"He really doesn't look like a legend, he looks like a weird dude adjusting his glasses trying to look cool", he said.
Unfortunately, this seems to have brought out all sorts of monsters from the woodwork, as the kid was eventually doxed and his social network accounts are apparently still being bombarded with hundreds of messages.
As you can see, the horde is pretty devoted to ensuring everyone is on the same page in regards to Reeves and Cyberpunk 2077.
In the meantime, the kid apologised and explained that in his mind, you have to be old to be a legend, which is actually pretty endearing, but apparently not to everyone.
We cannot grasp why someone would tell a child they're glad their grandfather is dead, nor why'd someone who obviously isn't a genetics expert mention chromosomes to a kid that's probably at the basic reading level, but to say that we're disgusted is a severe understatement.
Moreover, the irony of Keanu having built his public image by being humble, kind, sympathetic and an all-round good guy, and then seeing his honour defended by the worst type of monsters imaginable, and from an evil kid no less, is not lost here.
Add to that the fact that a child's honesty is associated with profound innocence, something books, nay libraries have been written about, and the actual extent of the transgressions of the mob become painfully apparent.
Most of the calls for Keanu justice were since taken down, and Pewdiepie's subreddit was among them. A reminds users that "witch hunting, doxing and harassment are NOT tolerated" and that these fans of Keanu are no fans.
CD Projekt Red and Reeves pulled off an iconic and heartwarming E3 moment that we'll all surely cherish for years to come. So ask yourself this - what would Keanu do?
