Clutch

Clutch

Clutch is a cinematic open-world action-driving game developed by Maverick Games, revealed on 2 June 2026 and showcased at Summer Game Fest on 5 June 2026, with a release scheduled for Spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Built on a custom version of Unreal Engine 5 and in development for over three and a half years, the game is Maverick's debut title and the first AAA open-world driving game to centre a full cinematic story written by an acclaimed television writer. The script comes from Jamie Brittain, co-creator of the BAFTA-winning Channel 4 series Skins, and the cast includes Tosin Cole, Little Simz, Peter Serafinowicz, Gregory Montel, Kieron Moore, and Jane Perry. Originally funded by Amazon Games, the studio went independent earlier in 2026 after Amazon withdrew from the project.

Players take on the role of Theo Martial, a rising star competing in the R1K, a prestigious racing tournament with a century of history behind it. A dramatic accident during the final moments of the race sends Theo's world off course, pulling him into the Midnight Collective, an underground street racing subculture operating beneath the glamour of the French Riviera.

The open world spans diverse terrain across the Mediterranean coastline, from city streets and mountain switchbacks to coastal highways, and supports a PvPvE sandbox where shifting alliances, police pursuits, and rival crews create unscripted action. A proprietary physics engine and deep vehicle personalisation system allow players to build cars defined by both identity and performance, with rewards tied equally to creative expression and race results.
