Stranger Than Heaven

Stranger Than Heaven

Stranger Than Heaven is an open-world action-adventure game developed by RGG Studio and published by SEGA, scheduled to launch on 15 January 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere support. First announced under the codename Project Century at The Game Awards 2024, it is RGG Studio’s first game set entirely outside the Yakuza and Like a Dragon universe since Judgment in 2018, and the studio’s most ambitious original IP in scope and structure. The game spans a fifty-year saga across five cities and five distinct eras of modern Japan, from the post-war 1950s through to the late 1990s, tracing the lives of men with nowhere to go as they fight for survival, identity, and a place to call home.

The protagonist is Daito, a drifter who uses extreme violence to survive and musical performance as a means to thrive. Music is central not just to the story but to the gameplay, with a recording mechanic that allows players to capture environmental sounds and incorporate them into performances. Combat draws on RGG Studio’s brawling DNA while expanding into new systems suited to the shifting eras and cities. The cast includes Snoop Dogg, Tori Kelly, Japanese singer Ado, and Official Hige Dandism vocalist Satoshi Fujihara, all four of whom perform the main theme song as well as portraying characters in the story. Tupac Shakur also appears in the game via a partnership with his estate.
