Master Chief likes to relax with some refreshing Mountain Dew and Doritos when his trigger finger gets all cramped from a hard day at the office, and Assassin's Creed Origins will have Bayek unwinding after a long trek through the desert with rejuvenating baths in pools of ancient Egyptian Monster Energy.
What's the first thing that comes to mind when someone brings up ancient Egypt, assassins and camels? Well, Monster Energy, obviously.
UbiSoft will be trying its hand at the first ever direct ARG mechanics in an Assassin's Creed game, by allowing players to acquire in-game currency through the purchase and eventual consumption of Monster Energy beverages. This is only the first stage of the game's ARG component, as the second one will increase the player's reflexes and hand-eye coordination by infusing his body with sugar and caffeine.
But wait, there is more. In the third and final mechanic, which is integral to Assassin's Creed Origins by design, the player will be granted the option of purchasing a set of weapons exclusive to the Monster Energy ARG system.
UbiSoft have partnered up with fellow artists from the Monster Beverage Corporation to bring the most caffeinated gaming experience of all time to players around the world*. Making sure players have ample incentive to buy more cans of Monster Energy than they could possibly have use for in-game, the augmented reality game goes one step further, offering monstrous rewards for entering in the official UbiMonster competition.
Entering gives you a chance of winning a visit to UbiSoft's game factory in Montreal, or one of 100 Xbox One S consoles with a copy of Assassin's Creed Origins. Yes, Microsoft is helping shape the future of ARG gaming in a humble manner as well.
Sadly, any gamers hoping to win a visit to a Monster Beverage Corporation brewery or office will have to wait for some other contest.
Disclaimer: Assassin's Creed Origins and Monster Energy Cans are products first and foremost, any semblance to actual art forms living or dead is purely coincidental.
