The Last of Us 2 may still have no release date to speak of, but what it does have is a new cinematic trailer. The new trailer takes the cake when it comes to sheer brutality, but it doesn't show us much of anything about Ellie and Joel.
PlayStation 4 owners may not know the exact date they'll get to play The Last of Us 2 but now they have a brand new trailer to drool over. Or cringe at, as it is pretty brutal. Yet another trailer to come out of Paris Games Week showcases some new characters and teases the new story:
A young woman is captured and about to be hanged. Another hostage, who piques the lead captor's interest, is brought in. Emily, the lead captor, asks her new prisoner where the "other apostate" is. Yara - the second prisoner - proceeds to mildly annoy Emily who orders her assistants to "clip her wings".One of the assistants gets rudely interrupted in his task by an arrow that goes straight through his cheek. The archer turns out to be a young boy named Lev. He is in cahoots with Yara. Lev also saves the first captive even though she is "one of them". The nearly five minute long trailer ends with Infected rushing the scene.
Naughty Dog revealed the actors who make an appearance in the clip via Twitter: Victoria Grace plays Yara, Ian Alexander plays Lev, Emily Swallow makes a "guest appearance" as Emily, and Laura Bailey plays a character whose name is censored - she is the one who got herself captured and hanged.
The Last Of Us 2 announcement closed out last year's PlayStation Experience opening ceremony. I know. Not many details are available about the new game, but Naughty Dog did confirm that Ellie, not Joel, will be the primary playable character this time around. We also know that the first game's director, Bruce Straley, is not returning to direct Part II.
