Shadow of the Colossus for the PlayStation 4 is coming sometime in 2018 and a new trailer showcasing the game's visuals on the PlayStation 4 Pro has just been revealed at the Tokyo Game Show.

Same as the 2011 HD version of Shadow of the Colossus for the PlayStation 3, Shadow of the Colossus for the PlayStation 4 set to arrive sometime in 2018 is the same game as Shadow of the Colossus from 2005 for the PlayStation 2 - only prettier. Enough to make your head spin, right? But in reality, it's fairly simple - from now on and until forever, every new PlayStation console will get its own version of the game.

This is fine. Giving a new generation of players the chance to experience one of the true masterpieces of games with updated visuals is a welcome treat, in spite of the high probability that Sony will try and carge a full AAA release price once the remaster is ready to ship.

This time they aren't calling it a remaster, but a remake. Apparently Texas based studio Bluepoint is rebuilding all of the game's assets and plugging them back into the original mechanics and systems of the game. A bit of a semantic head scratcher, since players will pretty much be getting the same game from 2005 only prettier, if everything goes according to plan. It's the usual song and dance by now - 4K, framerates, prettiness.

Bluepoint Games were also behind the Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection version for the PlayStation 3.

Some of the technical wizardry that made the jaw dropping visual effects of the original game possible on the PlayStation 2 might be lost in the transition, but that's ok.
