Gearbox Software and Gearbox Publishing are offering behind-the-scenes insight into their works at PAX East 2019 and one particular selling point for their panel may be the potential Borderlands 3 announcement they hinted at. Kind of.
Looter shooter fans everywhere are itching for more Borderlands instalments as the last mainline entry, Borderlands the Pre Sequel was released over four years ago, on 14 October 2014. Vault Hunters have been deprived of cel shaded action for years now, but their wait may be coming to an end.
In the few lines they had to promote their panel at PAX East, Gearbox stated that attendants will get a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of Gearbox Software and Gearbox Publishing "along with the latest news and updates". While that could be a bit of a stretch to go on, they did add that "never-before-seen reveals" will be there during the show.
Considering this almost spells out a new game announcement, it is highly likely this game will be Borderlands 3. Gearbox didn't shy away from openly stating there would be another Borderlands game, back in 2016, although they didn't specifically name it Borderlands 3.
Fans were recently getting restless, firing up the questions about the next Borderlands and at some point Gearbox (maybe?) jokingly stated they didn't know how to get proper art of a Psycho with three hands mimicking guns pointed at his head, as the original Borderlands had the Psycho pointing one "gun" and Borderlands 2 art had the psycho imitating two of them.
This prompted a fitting humorous response from one fan who went on to help Gearbox with box art for Borderlands 12. It will be interesting to see if the next Borderlands turns out to bear number three, or even 12 and uses the fan's art for the cover.
Either way, we should find out at PAX East on Thursday, 28 March 2019. Keep in mind that this is just a rumour for the moment as neither Gearbox nor 2K acknowledged any of these theories or gave an official statement yet.
