Activision is launching Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone. The game will be available next week for PlayStation 4 users. Tuesday, 27 June will also mark the start of Call of Duty's "Days of Summer" promotion.

Up until this point Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered was only available bundled up either with the Legacy, Digital Deluxe or the Legacy Pro edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The game's physical versions required the Infinite Warfare disc to be inserted in order to access Modern Warfare.

A couple of days ago photos of a standalone boxed copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered surfaced. Fans of the game have been waiting for this moment ever since the folks from Activision first announced the digital remaster.

Mind you, this was all speculation and rumour until today. Activision officially confirmed the news and added that the game will be made available for PlayStation 4 next week. Other platforms will get their version at a later date.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered includes the full campaign along with 16 multiplayer maps. The bundle will not include the Modern Warfare Remastered Variety Map Pack, which features the Killhouse, Broadcast, Creek, and Chinatown maps.

The game will launch for PlayStation 4 next Tuesday, 27 June, and its release will also mark the start of Call of Duty's "Days of Summer" promotion. The promotion is a five-week community event that features maps, double XP, new playlists, gear, and more.

The "Days of Summer" event will also include a summer-themed map available for play in Modern Warfare Remastered for the duration of the event. Guys at Activision said that we'll have more information next week when the PlayStation 4 version launches.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will be available both digitally and physically and it will cost somewhere around £34.99. No release date has been given for the PC and Xbox One versions.

What do you think about this release? Do you already own the game, and would you pay for it again in order to get it as a standalone title?
