Criterion Games co-founders started a new development studio and they are working on a spiritual successor to the Burnout franchise. The game is called Danger Zone and it's going to be available soon.

How many cars can you destroy?

From the co-creators of the Criterion Games and the Burnout franchise from 2001 comes a spin-off based solely on the game's famous Crash Mode. Three Fields Entertainment announced their latest project today. Other two games by the studio, Danger Golf and Lethal VR, received some less than desirable reviews and lukewarm reception in the past.

Fiona Sperry, founder and CEO of Three Fields Entertainment, said “We are going back to our roots by creating a game in a genre we are truly passionate about,”.

She continued: "Danger Zone takes what made the Crash Mode featured in 2004’s Burnout 3: Takedown so popular and transforms it into an all-new car-crashing, arcade-style puzzle game."

The events of the Danger Zone will take place in a virtual crash testing facility, and the players will compete to see who can total the most cars. There will be some leaderboards involved, and it's not yet confirmed if they will be taking submissions from the Fast and Furious franchise.

Danger Zone will offer up 20 different scenarios, and each scenario will have its own layout, traffic and pickups. You start a scenario by ramming your vehicle into an intersection  to cause a "First Impact". If you crash enough cars to earn a "SmashBreaker", your car will turn into a "bomb that can explode on command".

Awesome. Archer is going to be so proud.

While under the effects of the "SmashBreaker" mode, the more cars you wreck, the higher you'll rank on the leaderboard.

Danger Zone will crash onto PlayStation and PC in May, sporting a £9.99 price tag.
