Perception is under development by the Deep End Games set up by Bill Gardner, who previously worked for Irrational Games
Perception stands to be the first title published by Feardemic, a company that focuses on publishing horror titles. The game was successfully funded on Kickstarter in 2015, and is now under development of the people who worked on Dead Space and BioShock more on them later. Originally slated for a release on PC and Mac, it was announced in January 2017 that the game is going to be coming to PlayStation 4 as well.
The Deep End Games: developer team behind the game, honed their craft working on franchises such as Bioshock, Bioshock Infinite, Dead Space and more. Their studio is located in Boston.
Perception tells the story of Cassie, a blind woman with the skill to echo-locate. Players will have to rely on glimpses of their surroundings seen in bluish hues to get their bearings, but otherwise move in pitch-black darkness while solving the mysteries of the mansion.
It's been announced that Perception will now be coming to Xbox One as well. “We didn’t want to leave Xbox One players in the dark—no pun intended—by supporting their console of choice,” said Bill Gardner, creative director at The Deep End Games. “We’re really excited that Xbox fans will be able to experience the unique world we’ve built in Perception.”
Even though the release date is still to be revealed, it's safe to assume that we'll be able to run around the Echo Bluff mansion before the year is out.
Update: The release date is now set for 30 May. That's for the game's PC release.
