The previously unreleased Stormy Ascent level, cut from the first Crash Bandicoot, will be added to the N.Sane Trilogy remaster in the form of DLC. The additional level will be free up until 19 August 2017, and it will cost money after that.

The Stormy Ascent level was cut from the original Crash Bandicoot just prior to its completion for being too difficult. While it remained on the game disc, the unreleased level was only discovered later with the help of GameShark.

The Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy remaster will now feature the previously hidden level, and it is available as free DLC for anyone interested up until 19 August 2017. It will be sold for a little over £2 after that.

"I was new to games and game design back then; I didn't have a great understanding of a difficulty curve. This level was so close to the end of the game and, you guessed it, it ended up being insanely difficult. As in, so difficult that it was hard for me, and I’m the guy who knew exactly how far Crash could jump, how late a player could take-off, and so on", the level's designer Taylor Kurosaki reflected on the circumstances of the production in a statement.

Stormy Ascent is also four times longer than any other level in the 1996 release. Coupled with the somewhat increased difficulty of the remaster altogether, the new level should spark quite a few cries of Challenge accepted! across the internet, so expect to se a perfect run in a short while.
