Death Stranding is confusing even to Hideo Kojima, the game's creator admitted in his latest interview. Kojima said that even now he does not understand the game as the open world, the gameplay and other mechanics are totally new to him.
Ever since we got the first trailer for Hideo Kojima's new project Death Stranding, the game has remained a mystery to many players who are eagerly anticipating its release. With each new detail and teaser, Death Stranding only asked more questions while the answers were nowhere to be found.
Hideo Kojima did reveal some stuff, which gives us a clearer picture at how exactly will Death Stranding gameplay work. He claims that players should not expect a stealth game nor shooter, instead it's a totally new genre that he loves to call a social strand system.
However, judging from his latest interview, it looks like even Hideo Kojima is not sure what Death Stranding is all about. Speaking to the Financial Times, Hideo Kojima admitted even he can’t quite comprehend his new project where the focus is connection and rebuilding rather than action and destruction.
“Death Stranding… even now, I don’t understand the game,” Kojima said and added that for him, it's a totally new experience with the game's world, gameplay and other mechanics. "Its world view, gameplay, they are all new. My mission is to create a genre that does not currently exist, and which takes everyone by surprise. There is, naturally, a risk in that," Kojima explained.
Kojima's thoughts on Death Stranding make sense since he claims that his strand title will be the first of its kind so it's not surprising to see that even the game's creator is a bit confused by it, since he can't predict how players will cope with it.
After all, the majority of gamers play games because they are fun and the experiments could offer a different kind of experience.
Anyway, we'll have to wait a bit more to find out what exactly Death Stranding is all about. The game is hitting the shelves on 08 November 2019 for PlayStation 4.
