According to the latest reports, Mortal Kombat film reboot cast is expanding with Sonya, Kano and one secret character. The Meg actress Jessica McNamee will play Sonya while Aussie actor Josh Lawson has closed a deal to play Kano.

Mortal Kombat film reboot is officially in pre-production since earlier this year and the cast has been expanding ever since the producers announced the first details about the film such as filming locations and the expected rating.

Last week, it's been officially confirmed that Liu Kang will be played by Aquaman's Ludi Lin, Supergirl actor Mehcad Brooks is Jax while Thor Raganork's Tadanobu Asano has been cast as Raiden. Today, we also have some new actors joining the expanding Mortal Kombat film cast.

This time, it's the two natural enemies - Sonya Blade and Kano - that will play in the adaptation of the brutal fighter. According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Meg actress Jessica McNamee is in final negotiations to play Sonya Blade, while Aussie actor Josh Lawson has closed a deal to play Kano.

Furthermore, the report claims that another actor is close to joining the cast but his role has not been disclosed. In final negotiations to play this mysterious lead character is Wu Assassins and Deadpool 2 actor Lewis Tan.

While the official confirmation of Tan's role is yet to come, our bet would be on Scorpion, as it's the only bigger role that is yet to be filled. The producers could have a couple of surprises with the legendary character, which may be the reason for the secrecy.

Mortal Kombat filming is kicking off later this year in southern Australia with Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear and Sean Robins behind the helm.

As for the release date, Mortal Kombat should hit the cinemas on 05 March 2021, if everything goes silky smooth and according to plan.
