According to Vienna-based publisher THQ Nordic, Saints Row 5 is currently in deep development by Volition studio. In their latest financial report, THQ Nordic confirmed that the game is the full entry in the series and not a spin-off.
It's been almost six years since the release of the last major Saints Row game and by the looks of it, the fifth instalment could be just around the corner. The publisher THQ Nordic who own the Saints Row developer Volition, have confirmed in their latest financial report that Saints Row 5 is in "deep development".
"Volition is deep in development of a brand-new Saints Row game, [it is] the first full entry in this much-loved series since Saints Row IV," it's revealed in the report.
Unfortunately, the publisher did not offer any additional details about the game. It is still unknown when exactly can players expect it or what kind of story and setting will Volition go with. Hopefully, the devs manage to deliver a much better game than Agents of Mayhem, which disappointed a lot of players.
In their financial report, THQ Nordic also mentioned a couple of other franchises including TimeSplitters. The publisher confirmed that series co-creator Steve Ellis joined the team to "help plot the future course for this franchise". At the moment, there is no indication of what exactly that future will bring.
Last but not least, THQ Nordic talked about Dead Rising 2, which is now being developed by UK studio Dambuster. That makes it the third studio to work on the much-anticipated sequel.
You may remember that Specs Ops: The Line developer Yager were originally developing the game but Sumo Digital came in as a replacement. Since then, Sumo Digital has also been moved off the project. Dead Rising 2 still doesn't have a release date, but THQ Nordic list it for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, meaning that it should arrive before the next-gen consoles.
For more THQ Nordic news, the company recently confirmed the acquisition of three development studios. More on that here.
