CD Projekt Red's upcoming RPG Cyberpunk 2077 won't have any card games similar to The Witcher 3's Gwent card game. This has been confirmed by CD Projekt Red's Rafal Jacki on Reddit after the introduction of a standalone physical card game.
Earlier this month, CD Projekt Red officially announced a partnership with an international board game publisher CMON to bring Cyberpunk 2077 - Afterlife: The Card Game, a standalone physical card game to those who are excited about the upcoming RPG.
After the announcement, many players expected that CD Projekt Red could soon announce a card game for Cyberpunk 2077, similar to Gwent, which is well-known card game to those who played CD Projekt Red's previous RPG - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Unfortunately, CD Projekt Red don't have any plans to reveal such thing in the near future, in fact, they officially confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 won't have a Gwent-like card game.
On Reddit, CD Projekt Red's Rafal Jacki responded to a rumour about Netrunner card game becoming the Gwent of Cyberpunk 2077. Jacki made it clear that the company is not even considering this.
"Sorry all but we are not doing Netrunner in any way - I’m a fan of the game myself but we decided to create something new and stand-alone. No plans to have a card game in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game," Jacki explained.
While some may be disappointed with this news, this doesn't mean that Cyberpunk 2077 won't have other mini-games to compensate for the lack of Gwent-like card game.
CD Projekt Red already confirmed that players will be able to take part in car races and boxing matches and it wouldn't surprise us to see more mini-games revealed later, as we get closer to the release date.
