At this year's Comic-Con in San Diego, California, Niantic and WB Games showed off some upcoming Harry Potter: Wizards Unite content and it turns out the game is getting dragons, or special Oddities as the dev calls them, pretty soon.
"From the Common Welsh Green to the Antipodean Opaleye, dragons will be making their landfall debut in the game as special Oddities for a limited time only at Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Fan Festival in Indianapolis this August 31 - September 1", Niantic wrote.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite players are advised to take advantage of the opportunity because once the event has ended, different varieties of dragons will only be appearing in certain regions.
Niantic also shared some other details on Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, such as the incoming ability for players to record their walking distances, regardless of whether the game is running in the foreground.
This is the same feature Niantic launched for Pokemon GO back in October 2018, under the name Adventure Sync, and it's a bit peculiar that it doesn't come with Harry Potter: Wizards Unite right out of the proverbial box.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has recently held its first Community Day event, where players from Tokyo, Seoul, London, Hamburg, San Francisco and others raced around, embarrassing people in front of the wizards. Sorry about that, I just love that joke.
According to Niantic, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite players collected more than 12 million Foundables and walked more than 270 thousand kilometres.
For all intents and purposes, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite seems like Pokemon GO's big brother, although the added complexity and the extra layer of visual shine seem to have prevented it from matching the latter's revenue.
That's not to say Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is doing bad, far from it as it ended up earning 300K in the first 24 hours, which is definitely not too shabby for a free-to-play mobile game. In comparison, Pokemon GO earned $2 million in the same period, and that's in the US alone.
