Netflix's The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich has shared a couple of new details about the upcoming series. She said that the series won't have a singular bad guy but there will be a lot of monsters that will be integral to the story.

Netflix's The Witcher is certainly one of the most anticipated TV series of the year. The filming was officially wrapped up earlier this year and we already got first stills from the series, showing Henry Cavill as Geralt, Freya Allan as Ciri and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer. Also, a couple of days ago, Netflix gave us the first shot of Geralt's trusty companion - Roach.

Today, we have some new and interesting details about the series, coming directly from The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich. In her latest interview, Hissrich confirmed that the series won't have a single bad guy and that the first season is more about the character and their development throughout the first eight episodes.

"There isn’t really a villain. One of the things we’re enjoying exploring is all the shades of grey in the books. The characters you’re rooting for in the beginning may not be the characters you’re rooting for in the end. And characters you hate and seem absolutely evil are motivated by something that’s really relatable and human and emotional," Hissrich explained.

While Netflix's The Witcher may not have a big bad guy in its first season, Hissrich says that monsters will take his place, and apparently, there will be a lot of them. Since Geralt is a monster hunter, from the very beginning the plan was to show as many monsters as possible and how people interact with them.

According to Hissrich, many will be surprised by how many monsters are included in the series and how integral are they to the story. "It really feels like the monster stories become analogues for bigger things happening in the world right now in different political phenomenons," Hissrich said.

Last but definitely not least, The Witcher will be a "very adult show". However, the violence and sex are there to drive the story and not just for shock value.
