Bethesda announced that Rage 2 Update 3 will land on 25 July 2019 and will bring plenty of additions aimed at increasing replayability and adding quality of life improvements. New Game + is definitely one of the more exciting announcements.
Many Rage 2 players found it to be a bit lacklustre, as indicated by 56 per cent positive reviews on Steam, splitting the community almost exactly in half. Some found the story to be mediocre, others weren't satisfied with the way developers handled open world while some found the game to be short and therefore not worth the full AAA price.
That last group stands to gain the most from Update 3 on Thursday, 25 July 2019. It will offer three new ways to play that can likely be mixed as well. The new features will be New Game +, Ironman Mode and Ultra-Nightmare difficulty.
New Game + is not really a new concept and just about every gamer is already familiar with it. Players get to play their game all over again while retaining progression earned in the vanilla version. The progression may or may not entail skills, items and vehicles, depending on what the developers see as crucial game elements that should be earned again.
Ironman Mode is the hardcore gamer's wet dream as it offers permadeath. With great stakes come great thrills. XCOM: Enemy Unknown, XCOM 2 and Ghost Recon: Wildlands are some of the more recent games that come to mind when you mention a hardcore mode like this. It's called Ghost Mode (not to be confused with PvP Ghost War) in Ghost Recon though.
Ultra-Nightmare difficulty is self-explanatory really. It's a difficulty setting that is above the highest one in the game. Let's just hope it doesn't mean more bullet sponges.
There are quality of life changes heading our way in Update 3 though, such as flashlights, skippable Ark tutorials and some others that Bethesda didn't reveal.
