Epic's freebie train continues and Epic Games Store's latest one is Overcooked, a delightful and potentially relationship threatening piece of simple yet addictive fun. The game is available all week and will be followed by Torchlight.

There's much to be said about Overcooked's deceptive simplicity, and you'll understand the 'deceptive' part as your cooking skills improve and the amount and complexity of recipes grows.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves here. Developed by Ghost Town Games and published by Team 17, Overcooked is a game that puts players in the shoes of a chef, or chefs if you're playing in singleplayer, which isn't something we'd recommend.

Where Overcooked truly shines, and many relationships truly fail, is the co-op multiplayer, where you'll be assuming various duties on dynamic maps, bumping into your teammates and trying to serve food.

Overcooked rounds are timed and chefs are given the order by which they need to serve the food they prepare. Preparing is as easy as picking up the necessary ingredients, slicing them up and throwing them into the pot.

Starting off pretty simple, Overcooked quickly evolves into a monster of complexity that's lovingly pieced together from simple mechanics, all of which combines into an award-winning title that's as fun as it is gorgeous.

Ghost Town Games and Team 17 launched the sequel, Overcooked 2, in August 2018, and if you happen to like the original, you can't go much wrong with the sequel either - it's practically the same game with more bells and whistles added. You can check out some screenshots of the sequel in the gallery below.

That said, make sure that your relationship with your teammate is rock solid before daring to venture beyond Overcooked's walls, especially if it's your significant other, because only hell awaits within. Well. Not really, but it's really fun and you'll eventually see what we mean.

Overcooked is free on Epic Games Store until 11 July, and in accordance with the company's weekly cadence of free titles will follow it up with Runic Games' excellent action RPG Torchlight.
