Wykhrm Reddy, the mysterious figure that tends to be the first one to announce Dota 2 news has offered some insight again. This time around he announced the dates of qualifiers, group stage and the main event for The International 2019.
No one can really confirm who Wykhrm Reddy is, whether he works for Valve or what his connection is to the other Dota 2 mystery, IceFrog. However, his info has proven correct in the past and the dates he provided for The International 2019 are highly likely to be correct.
According to the mystery man's tweet, the open qualifiers will kick off on 3 July 2019 and will conclude on 7th.
Regional qualifiers will commence one day after, on 8 July 2019 and will conclude on 15 July 2019.
The group stage is set to run from 15 through 18 August 2019 while the main event will start two days later, on 20 August 2019. The playoffs will go on for six days and will conclude on 25 August 2019.
Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai will be the venue so almost all the possible info on The International 2019 has already been revealed.
Only two things remain to be locked in - the teams that qualify for the tournament and the prize pool. The prize pool itself is looking to become the biggest one yet since it stood just short of $19 million at the time of writing which is more than Valve raised during the same period last year.
As a reminder, The International 2018 had a prize pool of $25 million. If the current prize pool keeps growing at the same speed, it could potentially reach $30 million, making history for Dota 2 once again.
Technically, Epic Games have the biggest prize pool with their $100 million in Fortnite World Cup but the organised teams that reach the top of Dota 2 competitions are a much smaller group of people, so the cake will be split in fewer ways. No cheaters have been confirmed to attend The International 2019 so far.
