GSC Game World have revealed they are working on tools for mod makers so S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 can be moddable from get-go. On the flip side, they are not working on battle royale for the game, which might actually be a good thing after all.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games have always been iconic for their unique atmosphere in singleplayer settings so it is no wonder GSC Game World are aiming to capitalise on the series' main appeal.
In an interview with Antishnaps, a Russian YouTuber, the developers confirmed they are working "very hard" on delivering mod support for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on launch. Previous games had mod support but it was far from optimal. On the other hand, it gave birth to some of the most refreshing content that prolonged the games' lifespan through added replayability.
Furthermore, these games were always singleplayer so it didn't come as much of a surprise that GSC are not working on a battle royale mode.
The genre is already oversaturated and the graveyard filled with failed battle royales is probably bigger than any other graveyard of specific genres' rejects. One of the victims is actually a game that heavily drew inspiration from S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Fear the Wolves, so it is probably for the best that the developers are not wasting resources on this mode.
GSC reiterated once again that they want to double down on what brought S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series the cult legend status - the series' unique atmosphere. They stated that the main inspiration actually came from the previous games, despite reading the literature they were based on.
The team has revisited the Chernobyl exclusion zone in order to capture the atmosphere they would later convey in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 which is pretty much good news for all the fans of the first three S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games.
Unfortunately for the same group of gamers though, GSC made an ominous statement as well - they will either make a blockbuster game that sweeps people off their feet or they will not make it to launching the product. This is a soul-crushing statement for the fans since this wouldn't be the first time S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 got cancelled.
