Hardsuit Labs and Paradox Interactive have showed roughly 20 minutes of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 gameplay during E3 2019. The game reminds of the original Bloodlines due to an interesting atmosphere and flimsy combat.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines was a disastrous masterpiece and just about anyone who played it can confirm this statement. It was riddled with bugs and had janky combat systems that were clearly not finished but people sing praises for the game to this day due to its well-crafted world filled to the brim with interesting characters, complete with a dark atmosphere that was hard to replicate to this day.
Now it seems like Hardsuit Labs captured those two aspects of Bloodlines perfectly in the sequel since the gameplay shown above features another interesting late night show, mimicking KTRK. Many places have are an eerie feel to them with barely any to no music.
One moment stood out in a negative light though, as the protagonist overhears the music in a local nightclub that just doesn't fit the atmosphere.
Another bit where Bloodlines 2 stays faithful to the predecessor is the dialogue system where we can see plenty of dialogue options, further reinforced by special abilities and traits the vampire might possess. This is not entirely surprising, considering the writing staff includes Chris Avellone and the original writer, Brian Mitsoda. It is good to see the narrative being given the attention it needs though.
Combat systems were one of the weak points in the original Bloodlines which is something the sequel also stayed faithful to, for better or worse. Melee attacks often don't feel like they connected while gunplay is janky and projectiles tend to miss targets the players had dead to rights.
Keep in mind that the gameplay videos show a clear disclaimer this is a pre-alpha build and as such, it is subject to change. We will hopefully get a smoother gameplay experience once the final product is out.
