Wasteland 3 development has been under radio silence for a while. That silence was broken by inXile Entertainment and Microsoft during Xbox Press Conference at E3 2019 where a rather weird and extremely colourful trailer popped up.
Wasteland series always had a joke or a few thrown in but the games focused on the bleak post-apocalyptic world for the most part. Now it looks like inXile Entertainment might take a different direction as the E3 2019 trailer features a different feeling overall.
It looks more like a trailer for an isometric Rage 2 with all the purple, pink and other colourful aesthetics, closely followed by a drunkard's narration that is attempting to be funny.
Given the previous silence about the development progress, it is hard to tell if inXile really switched Wasteland 3's style from post-apocalyptic to a merry winter wonderland that's attempting to emulate colourful wastelands of Far Cry New Dawn and Rage 2.
If this proves to be the case, it will be a kick in the fans' teeth and remains to be seen how the audience would react to it.
On the other hand, longtime fans will have at least some enemies to look forward to if they want to kickstart the nostalgia train. The trailer properly showed a Scorpitron, confirming that the iconic enemy will make a return in Rangers' Colorado adventures.
Slicer Dicers are also making a comeback. Not many will look forward to dealing with these many-legged weapon carrying platforms but they are a good throwback regardless.
The trailer shows some of the weapons Rangers will have at their disposal where some concerning hints are starting to show.
The weapons themselves resemble some real-life counterparts, such as the AR-10 platform and an M1911 handgun but look like cheap knockoffs. It's hard to judge for the moment because not all weapons were shown so far but it's likely we will not be able to get our hands on a heavily modified M4 that is clearly shown on promotional material, even on the Xbox store.
