Valve revealed the top 20 best-sold titles on the Steam platform for April 2019, surprising many users as this is not really a tradition for the store. It includes indies like Katana Zero and AAA big name titles like Mortal Kombat 11.
Valve are usually hesitant to reveal which games sold the best on Steam, regardless of the type of the list they provide. Such was the case with top sellers in April 2019 where they simply sorted the games by release date, which is still a bit of an indication.
For example, the titles that released close to the end of the month and still managed to make the list probably sold better than those that were released early in April, since the latter had a longer time to sell enough copies to get into top 20.
Some of the latest releases on the list are Mortal Kombat 11, which came out on 23 April 2019 and Mordhau that was released on 29 April 2019. Mordhau is particularly impressive since the game sold enough copies in two days to make the top 20.
Katana Zero is another point of interest. It was released on 18 April 2019 and has been garnering praise all over the place. The game has seen its share of controversy, with Australian boards not approving it for the region, most likely due to drug usage by the protagonist but that hasn't stopped the work of one man, published by Devolver Digital, to sell like hotcakes.
It was sitting at 97 per cent positive reviews on Steam at the time of writing, which speaks volumes of the game's quality and appeal, both of which left little to nothing to stand in the way of good sales.
You can check the full list on the official Steam post, but once again, keep in mind that the sorting is not based on how well each game sold, but rather by their release date.
