NPD's report on the U.S. gaming market in April 2019 is in, and they practically confirm Sony's PS Store data from the same month, where Mortal Kombat 11 and Days Gone took the first two spots. In terms of hardware, Switch is ahead again.

Sony's report, of course, covered only PS4 downloads in April, but even though the first two spots are identical to NPD's report, the rest of the chart is quite a bit different, even when compared to the PS4-specific chart.

Note that NPD's April 2019 report refers to dollar sales, rather than units, and as we said, Mortal Kombat 11 and Days Gone are in the lead.

There are a few worthy milestones here, like the Kombat 11 becoming the second best-selling game of 2019, sitting just behind Kingdom Hearts 3.

NetherRealm was the best selling game on every platform it launched on and if they can keep up the tempo, there's no reason why Mortal Kombat 11 couldn't catch up with KH3.

Days Gone also scored a worthy win, officially becoming the best-selling game to come out of SIE Bend Studio.

The game's reviews weren't stellar, and this was misunderstood by many to mean Days Gone sucks, which couldn't be farther from the truth.

If you needed more proof of that, consider the fact that Days Gone's launch week in Japan beat the likes of God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn, becoming Sony's biggest new IP launch in Japan.

In terms of hardware, Nintendo Switch is definitely on a roll, having topped hardware sales in February and March 2019 as well.

NPD Group's report also says that video game spending is up by 1 per cent compared to April 2018, while gaming hardware sales are down as much as 29 per cent, most likely due to Sony and Microsoft consoles showing their age.
