Discord, the chat app for gamers has reached staggering growth in the previous year and now counts more than 250 million registered users according to the latest report from The San Francisco-based company.
These latest user numbers mean that Discord almost doubled its user count in space of one year. In May 2018, Discord reported 130 million registered users, which was up for 45 million from the year before.
The chat app is four years old now and its staggering rise over the years has been nothing but spectacular. The latest report only confirms that many gamers see it as one of the best gaming apps in the world right now.
Along with the total user numbers, Discord also revealed their monthly active users which reached more than 56 million this year.
Over the years, Discord also became popular outside of gaming but the company claim that its most popular servers are still gaming related. At the moment, the top server is for Epic's battle royale Fortnite followed by another battle royale game Spellbreak.
The third most popular server is Playerunknown's Battlegrounds while Minecraft, Clash Royale and Ubisoft's tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege are also highly popular servers.
The company also confirmed they employ more than 165 people, which is 50 per cent up from the previous year. Discord is often called Slack for gamers as it helps with organising gaming sessions and makes it easy to chat with friends while you play.
In other Discord news, at the end of 2018, the company announced 90/10 revenue split to developers who decide to sell their games on Discord Store, which launched in August 2018.
The goal of Discord Store is to compete with Epic Games Store and Steam and offer gamers one ultimate platform where they can have all their games and also chat and discuss with friends. You can find more about Discord Store here.
