Mortal Kombat 11 is a brutally good looking game.

NetherRealm's brutal fighter Mortal Kombat 11 managed to amass almost three times better player count on PC in its first week than the previous title in the franchise - Mortal Kombat X. The new game reached a concurrent player count of 35k.

Mortal Kombat 11 launched just under two weeks ago now and it's safe to say that, until now, commercially, Mortal Kombat 11 has been a major success for NetherRealm and WarnerBros. Mortal Kombat 11 had the best selling launch in the rich and long franchise and judging by the latest data from Githyp, the player count numbers on PC are also looking impressive.

After Mortal Kombat X failed to rank in Steam's top 50 most played games back in 2015, its successor has returned the glory to the franchise with a rank number 10 on Steam's most played games list.

According to Githyp, on last Tuesday - 30 April 2019, Mortal Kombat 11 peaked with 35k concurrent players, which is almost three times higher when compared to Mortal Kombat X's peak of 14k players.

Mortal Kombat 11's concurrent player number absolutely crushed NetherRealm's other title - Injustice 2. The DC superhero fighter peaked at only 1.8k concurrent players on its launch.

When compared to other fighting games, Mortal Kombat 11 falls short of Dragon Ball FighterZ, record-setting concurrent player count of 44k. However, Bandai Namco's Tekken 7 and Soulcalibur VI were behind Mortal Kombat 11 with 18k and 14k peak respectively.

As for physical sales, Mortal Kombat 11 failed to beat Days Gone in the UK, despite launching on four platforms - PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch. The retail sales are also lagging behind Mortal Kombat X's but this can be misleading as digital sales are on the rise with each passing year.

All in all, Mortal Kombat 11 had a pretty strong launch despite some of the issues and controversies regarding the game's progression system and microtransactions.
