Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft delivered The Division 2, which is probably the most complete looter shooter in recent history but it has its share of problems. One problem was the gear recalibration, which will get overhauled in 3.0.

During the State of the Game live stream on 24 April 2019, Massive Entertainment outlined a few important changes to gear recalibration in The Division 2 which will potentially make the gear much more powerful than before but it will no longer increase Gear Score (GS).

Items with 515 GS will be reserved for Dark Zone and a few other places, most likely Dark Hours raid when it comes but the number standing next to the high-end gear will be more insignificant with the new recalibration.

One of the biggest complaints players had about recalibration are the attribute caps that wouldn't allow the same values to be carried over from a destroyed item to the recalibrated one. For example, if you rolled 42 per cent Damage to Elites on an item you don't use, you could recalibrate it to another one but it could potentially be capped to 30 per cent or even lower.

This will no longer be the case and the numbers you see on the items that will be destroyed will carry over as they are. Such a change will most likely give way to new builds with more damage than before and will almost certainly make up for the damage lost with the upcoming nerfs to Berserk and other popular talents.

While looking at bigger numbers next to the GS stat is pretty, the new recalibration will be much more practical for players who want to get the most out of their builds.

There are still a few weeks left before Dark Hours gets deployed so it would be wise to start stocking up on items with high damage to elites, high weapon or dedicated damage, critical hit chance and critical hit damage bonuses since recalibration will not be capped once the raid comes. Also get a pile of Titanium and Polycarbonate. Sadly, the material storage is still capped.
