Bethesda have officially revealed the details of the next Wild Appalachia update that is arriving to Fallout 76 on 07 May 2019. Named Ever Upwards, the update will allow players to join Pioneer Scouts and unlock their first backpacks.
Bethesda are continuing to introduce new content to their post-apocalyptic online RPG Fallout 76 with regular updates. Next in line is the new Wild Appalachia update named Ever Upwards, that's currently slated to arrive along with Patch 9 on Tuesday, 07 May 2019.
The update will introduce two major features - Pioneer Scouts faction and Backpacks. You will be able to join the Scouts by checking out the posters at Train Stations around Appalachia, or you can unlock one for your C.A.M.P. for free in the Atomic Shop through 09 June 2019.
Once you join the scouts you'll need to prove you've embraced the Pioneer lifestyle by completing activities that demonstrate the faction's values. These include bravery, helpfulness and kindness.
You can also earn badges that can be spent at Pioneer Scout Vending Machines. Activities like swimming, archery, cooking and athletics will help you with this. Badges can be traded for Pioneer Scouts themed loot which you can use to improve and decorate your C.A.M.P.
As you rank up, you will be able to pursue tougher badges which will allow you to unlock your first backpack. These are new items that you can equip to increase your carry weight, obviously, and they are customisable and can be modded to your liking.
Furthermore, you'll be able to apply one of several functional mods to your backpacks so it suits your playstyle. For example, some mods that you can learn to craft will increase carry capacity, armour plating for more damage resistance and even refrigeration unit where you can put food and increase its shelf life.
Some of these will take precious space when installed and will reduce some of the bonus storage your backpack provides so plan your mods accordingly. Also, whenever you learn to craft new mod, it will apply automatically to all types of backpacks you can craft.
