Firaxis Games' turn-based tactics XCOM 2 is free to download and play on Steam for a limited time. The promo will run until Monday, 25 March 2019 and the game is also available at a huge discount along with the majority of its DLCs.
If you're looking for some quality turn-based tactics game to play over the weekend, and you're a huge fan of XCOM series, you'll be happy to hear that Firaxis and 2K Games are offering their XCOM 2 as free to play title for a limited time.
The special promotion is available on Steam right now and you can download and play the game over the weekend, before the offer expires on Monday 25 March 2019. If it happens that you like saving humanity from the alien invasion, XCOM 2 will be discounted up to 75 per cent during the promo period.
If you decide to purchase it, all your progress will be carried over to the full version. Along with the base game, the DLCs are also discounted and you can get the complete collection for just $24,74 or buy the ones that you like as a separate purchase.
The discounted DLCs include War of the Chosen, Reinforcement Pack, Shen's Last Gift, Alien Hunters and Anarchy's Children.
XCOM 2 was originally released on 05 February 2016 exclusively on Steam and on 27 September 2016 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game received overall positive reviews from the gaming critics but the user score on Metacritic is currently at 7.2 with 191 positive, 79 mixed and 112 negative reviews. On steam, XCOM 2 recent review score stands at 74 per cent, while the overall score is a bit higher - 81 per cent.
Some players criticised the game for being dumbed down when compared to previous instalments in the franchise, while others praise it as one of the most enjoyable tactics game ever created.
XCOM 2 is set in the year 2035, 20 years after the events of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and its expansion. Military organisation XCOM was unable to fight off an alien invasion, has lost the war and it acts as a resistance force against the alien occupation of Earth and their totalitarian regime and dictatorship.
